Melly Clover June 1997 – April 2011
It was a gray, late April morning with a light north wind coming off the bay.
We were in the yard one of her last mornings, I knew, and so did she I think.
Melly stood several feet away sideways to me facing north in almost a show
Her head was lifted, her nose was moving, sniffing the air, her long,
brown, curly ears moved in the gentle wind.
I wanted to run in and grab my camera but this was a moment only for the
I watched her, deaf and no longer strong and it was the most
She was so fully herself, so fully present, so dignified.
She was magnificent.
