Dermatology (Skin Care)

There are many pets with allergies – just as humans have allergies. Humans have allergies manifested through the mucous membranes of their respiratory tract thus “Hay Fever.” Dogs and some cats have the same allergies mostly manifested through their skin.

The most common clinical presentation is skin itch (i.e. scratching, licking, or chewing at any part of their body. Pets will frequently present with secondary skin infections. There are multiple testing and treatment options available depending on the severity of the allergic skin disease.

There is two basic types of allergic skin disease:
  • Atopy
contact/inhaled allergies (i.e. molds, pollens, house dust mites, etc)
  • Food Allergies
pets can be allergic to any component of the food.

Dr. Peck strongly encourages that all dogs and cats be put on daily Omega 3 & 6 fish oil supplements to aid in the health of their hair and skin

Please call us and discuss what treatment options are best for your pet.
